Do you often hear that it takes months to receive Social Security benefits and allowances? These are the steps to prevent this from happening.

Create Direct Social Security Account
The first thing to do is create a Direct Social Security account. The online Social Security service.
Go to the Social Security website at http://www.seg-social.pt/
Click the Direct Social Security logo at the top of the page.
Click on the “Register” button
Follow the steps for account creation. You will receive a code in the email address to activate the account.
Access your Direct Social Security account
Having a Social Security account already makes it much easier. Also because you are already familiar with the portal.

Select Family tab
Here are 2 order creation options: Family Allowance and Prenatal, and Parenting.
Prenatal: The Prenatal Child Benefit Benefit is monthly cash support paid to a pregnant person who has reached the 13th week of pregnancy. Confirm Grant Conditions and Duration here.
Family allowance: Child / Youth Allowance is a monthly cash support to help families support and educate children and young people. Confirm Conditions and Duration of Allowance here.
Parenting: Allowance paid to the father or mother to replace lost work income during the period of maternity leave. Confirm Grant Conditions and Duration here.
Apply for Prenatal Allowance
Within Family Allowance select “Ask and Consult”
Click on the button “Request new prenatal allowance”
This process requires the proof of pregnancy and the household income and composition form in digital format. The latter is available for download on the grant application page.
Apply for Child Allowance
Within Family Allowance select “Ask and Consult”
Click on the button “Request new family allowance”
Apply for Parenting Allowance
In the family menu, select the option “Parenting”.
At the bottom of the page, under the "Request New" button select the "Initial Parental Allowance" option. This is the initial allowance paid at 100%. Parents are entitled to 25 days, and mothers are entitled to 4 months. These days are followed.
Once the days are counted in a row, you must create each set of days so that you do not include the days off from your job. In my case I did not include the weekends. These inserts are automatically validated by the system.
Social Security Payment Dates
Social Security has its own payment schedule that is available and updated monthly.
Access the Social Security website at http://www.seg-social.pt/.
There is on the right side of the page an identifying button on “Allowances and Pensions”. Click on this button.
You will be presented with a table with the benefit and pension payment dates for the month indicated by Social Security.
For Family Allowances consider the line “Family Benefits.
For Prenatal and Parenting Allowances, consider the lines “1st Unemployment / Illness / Parenting Payment” and “2nd Unemployment / Illness / Parenting Payment”.
These last two mean that there are two payment times per month. The total amount awarded for that period is divided into 2 payments.
In my case, I submitted the request on July 19th. I received the first payment on August 16 and the second on August 28.
